School Bus Crash Kills Child, Injures Four, in Idaho

Global banking and finance news 28

Police say one child was killed and four others injured when a dump truck collided with an elementary school bus Thursday morning in Kuna, Idaho. Neither driver was injured, but the bus driver was taken to a hospital.

Canyon County Coroner Viki Degeus-Morris confirmed the deceased’s identity as Daniel Cook, an 11 year old boy. Cause of death was reported to be blunt force trauma. Officials report that the 12 children on the bus, including the injured, were all sixth grade or younger. No additional details were released.

The crash occurred at the rural intersection of Happy Valley and Deer Flat roads as the bus traveled to Crimson Point elementary. The dump truck was northbound on Happy Valley Road and did not have a stop sign. The school bus was eastbound on Deer Flat Road and did. However, Idaho State Police Sgt. John Burke was quoted as saying it’s too early to know what happened.

“We can’t really speculate. We need to gather more information and continue the investigation,” Burke said.

Idaho Department of Education Spokeswoman Melissa McGrath commented that this has been the first bus crash in Idaho to result in a student fatality since 1969.
